The Darkness
Alright, I know I'm gonna have some groans coming with this post and I know a lot of you probably will stop reading after the first few sentences or just skim it or not continue at all. That's perfectly okay and understandable, but I urge you to continue on.
I have love you at your darkest. I’m sure we’ve all heard it at some point in our lives. But every time I read those words, it does something to me. I’m not sure many people can say they’ve loved someone when they were at their lowest point, when they weren’t lovable in the least bit and all they wanted to do was lash out at them and ask what’s wrong with them, why are they acting this way. I’m sure people have wanted to do that to me. But when I read those words, it’s like it hits a chord inside of
me that starts the healing process. I want you to really think about those words. Let them sink in. Close your eyes for a moment and block out everything around you. Let the surrounding area go quiet. Think only of
those words. I have loved you at your darkest. Repeat them. For those of you who want to know where those words come from, look up the Bible verse Romans 5:8. It doesn’t include those exact words, but it is the meaning of that verse. The simpler way of saying it. For those of you not into that, look at it this way. It’s one of the most inhuman things you can do. It goes completely against human nature to love someone who treats you badly. It’s basically a superpower.
Those six little words are like a snitch in my life. Please, Harry Potter fans, you better get that reference. Let me explain. A snitch is hard to see, always just out of grasp, something your constantly chasing, occasionally losing sight of, something we aren’t completely sure what it even is. Whoever catches it, wins the whole game. Doesn’t matter what other all out war is going on around them or inside of them, the ultimate goal is to catch the snitch. Love is like a snitch. Always there, always around us, but we lose sight of it so much because of the wars going on around us and inside of us. We focus too much on surviving the beatings, falls, and harsh words of others, that we forget to love ourselves as well as others. We forget that those who say mean things to us are also dealing with their own battles. Draco never would have told anyone that his father was horrible to him and he was being made to do something he didn’t want to do. Because he didn’t want to disappoint his father, he acted exactly like him. So naturally, he either was loved because of what people thought they could get from him, or they hated him because he wasn’t brave enough to stand up for whats right and stop causing harm to others.
I have loved you at your darkest. Such simple words that hold so much power. Your enemy would either laugh at your or sputter and go insane
from the sheer impossibility of it. So many people think love is a weakness. In fact, it’s one of the greatest strengths this world has the honor and pleasure of having. It’s the only thing keeping any good alive in this world. It’s the only thing keeping this world alive. The pain we feel from rejection, from harmful words and jokes, from not being understood or appreciated, that is not from love. That is from fear. Please do not confuse the two. Maybe I do believe in fairytales and happy endings and love, but I would rather be like that than to add to the already destructive nature that fear has created. I’ll be the soldier that fights for the good things in life. I will love you at your darkest and show you that light still exists. I will help you in whatever way I possibly can.
There are so many songs that come to mind that would perfectly fit this post. Since I cannot add a playlist for specific posts, I'll just list a few. And NO judgement! I listen to many genres. I listen to what speaks to my heart and soul. Anyways, here is the brief list I will give you:
Stand By You - Rachel Platten
Because You Live - Jesse McCartney
Fight For You - Daughtry
Start Over - Flame, NF
Wish You Away - There For Tomorrow
Best I Can - Art of Dying
Nothing More Beautiful - Night Argent
A Sacrifice to Save You - Efisio Cross
Compass - Svrcina, Matt Bubel
We Are the Brave - VERIDIA
Embers - Helen Jane Long
The Way - Tunes of Fantasy
Still I Fly - Roadtrip Romance
Where the Lonely Ones Roam - Digital Daggers
When I Look At You - Miley Cyrus
I’m not sure I can really portray the importance of that statement. I’m not sure there are words in existence to truly express it. So I will end this post with my own statement. You are loved. Despite your past, your faults, your mistakes, the skeletons in the closet, your deepest darkest secrets, the parts of you you’re afraid to show anyone because how could anyone love someone like you. There is a tiny spark in you waiting to be fed. Let me be your supporter, your confidant, friend. And please don’t let the people around you take away from who you are. I know it’s easier said than done, I know not everyone will admit it, but life isn’t a game to try and get people’s approval. Despite recent and past events, this is NOT the Hunger Games. And some of you who don’t care if people like you, that’s the exact reason people like you. The people who stick around you and want your attention usually do it because they want to be like you. And when they can’t, they move on. They become like moths, flitting from light to light, trying to find the brightest one until they are completely burned up and there is nothing left of them. Don’t be one of those people. Be a light. Love is a light. Love people. Be the light that illuminates or sparks something inside them. Help them believe they are worthy of being loved, respected and are wanted.
I know I’ve rambled on a bit too long, so I’ll leave you with this. To quote The Lion King, “remember who you are.” Remember…..I have loved you at your darkest.
xx
